Current Focus: Geologic History of Metamorphic Rocks, Southern Blue Ridge Mountains

Project Description

I am studying the composition and metamorphic history of the rocks that make up the Blue Ridge Mountains, a crystalline section of the greater Appalachian Mountains to our east.

Why does this topic interest you?

I like to know what materials compose the rocks we walk upon every day. I am even more fascinated by metamorphic rocks that formed under extreme pressures and temperatures. They are beautiful under a microscope and they may reveal secrets of our geologic history!

What are your professional aspirations?

-Academic research in geosciences -Integrated field and laboratory professional setting -Expanding STEM opportunities for women and students of underrepresented groups

Do you have any advice for future researchers?
