Current Focus: Further Investigation into Antifungal Peptoid Dendrimers

Project Description

Dendrimers have been shown to be great drug carriers and can improve the potency of the drugs that are attached. A peptoid called RMG8-8 has been shown to have excellent activity against a fungus called Cryptococcus neoformans. This project aims to create a more potent therapeutic against this fungus infection by synthesizing peptoid dendrimers using the RMG8-8 peptoid.

Why does this topic interest you?

Synthesis of compounds is very interesting to me and this project involves trying to synthesize large molecules using several different synthesis methods.

What are your professional aspirations?

My goal after I finish my undergraduate degree is to pursue a graduate degree in chemical engineering concentrating in battery research.

Do you have any advice for future researchers?

Get involved! MTSU offers great opportunities for undergraduates to participate in meaningful research. Take advantage of this and try to get involved as soon as you can.
